Funny Definition

lamppost: verb. To lamppost someone is to sneak up in the middle of the night to the foot of their bed (typically along with willing co-conspirators), grip its frame and lift the bed up in a swift motion until it is fully vertical. When performed correctly, the (typically) sleeping occupant of the bed will be projected in a curvilinear flight path leaving him (victims are typically male), after the working of gravity, the rotational energy thus imparted, and subsequent collision and rebound with the back wall and/or floor (cushioned somewhat by covering duvet or blanket), lying upside down on his head, bruised by the impact and rudely awoken by this quite literal upheaval.

As far as the etymology of the term goes, the lamppost designation comes from the upright look of the bed once it reaches its final position. Lamppost thus has a sense of transformation, the repurposing of beds into utility poles and, linguistically, of a noun to a verb. It suggests movement from rest into action and a catapult effect of sorts.

Sample usage: "Why don't we lamppost Tiny Tim after lights out?"

SCHOOOLLLLS OUT FOR SUMMER!!

I am so excited that school is done with. This semester was interesting, but overall it was tons of economics and aspects of psychology that Im pretty sure I never want to delve into. I just got back from visiting Maria Stein, Brian's hometown. It was great seeing his family again, and getting some yummy home cooked food. The only downside was that I had to say goodbye to Brian since he's departing for New Zealand on the 8th. He's joining me in the international travel scene. hmm...Should be interesting attempting to stay in touch when he is in NZ and im in TZ. I turned 21 a couple weeks ago, so I suppose the pictures are ok to post on here.

This shot was actually taken at Andrea's 21st Birthday party.

time

Well, I guess being sick is as good excuse as any to update my blog. Not much to update on in the personal life though if you've been keeping up with the ASAP business at miamiasap.blogspot.com

so yea, i miss home. spring break is just a little way off, and i can almost taste the home cooking. every once in a while i get to cheat and eat mrs. wellmans food, but its not quite the same. Im pretty bummed out that im sick, since vivek is celebrating his 21st tonight. ive slept like 37 million hours so im not even tired. blah blah complain complain. i have been reading alot, woo hoo wheel of time series. carly came to visit a week or so ago, which was nice except she was like "ok nice seein ya, time to go". "these humans are so hasty." LEARN FROM ELDER HAMAN CARLY! ok, im a nerd, i admit it. i think i need some new music. all of mine seems old...and it is so it only makes sense. ive overplayed my swahili tunes so that i hum them all the time. newwwwwwwwww music! send me some. I think for my 21st bday (april 22) im just going to ask for things for my trip. im definitely going to need boots, and a bigger pack. other than that, im sure a few new articles of clothing wont hurt. ahhh to be trekking out in the serenghetti. as my friend eric said today "theres something so wild about seeing a lion attack a zebra". not like i really expect to see that exactly, but where else would i?

Ive spent alot of time lately thinking about...well...time. Fast, slow, eternal...sometimes we expect the world to turn on a dime, and other times we wish that it would just slooowww down and wait for our minds to be made up. not to get into the specifics of my crazy mind, but i guess i just spent so much of the beginning of college trying to rush through and make decisions quickly. Now i really want to do things right, in every aspect of my life.

total change of pace. i wrote this in class one day while looking around at some people. the next day in the same class i SERIOUSLY saw two people wearing the same exact outfit sitting right next to each other. i wanted to hurl. anyways, without further ado...

silky smooth smiles and slinky wry laughs lead to wrinkle dry moods and flat out crass
dream about a wonderboy and surround yourself in pink
wonder if he'll notice since you never make him think

ok, thats all for now. time to hide under my blankets.

new york, new york

Well, im in NYC about to head back down south. its been a fun time, and i got to see everything i wanted to see - world trade center memorial thang, United Nations Building, Central Park, etc. I watched the new al gore movie, which turned out to be more of a documentary on global warming - still interesting and informative. im excited to go wish my dad a happy fathers day. we got him a gift card for a round of golf at one of his favorite places in NC. yays. i think its the best idea we've ever had as poff kids on fathers day...he might get the same thing every year now, lol. so yea, jason and monica's apartment is really nice...mostly because of the great view over manhattan and the river. i might go stir crazy being in charlotte for more than a week, yikes. we shall see. theres always day trips to the mountains and the lakehouse for keeping my sanity. time to go get munchies for the car trip home!
